Spike & Ginger's pond - page 2

[Spike's pond] True koi aficionados rarely cultivate anything in their koi ponds but Nishikigoi (koi). Spike and Ginger wanted a more natural setting. Hence the plantings in and around the pond and stream areas. There is also a bull frog which lives in the pond. However, Lily (a name bestowed by their granddaughter) is normally only seen at night. The hospital/quarantine tank located on the concrete patio area is temporary and was set up to house a few ailing koi and several newcomers. It will (hopefully) be taken down or moved elsewhere soon.
[Spike's water course] The pond finishing and stream/water fall construction were done by a local rock and water scape company.
[Spike's pond] Two Brittanys (formally referred to as Brittany Spaniels), Cassy and Meg, also live here. The dogs normally have the run of the yard. Due to the dogs' high energy level, Spike has installed protection (fences and guards) for some of the younger and/or more delicate landscape. The kitchen was recently remodeled and the upper windows added to bring in more light while providing a better view of the trees.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
