The Answer

The Answer has been around now for some time, and is in use by many koi-keepers.
There have been some alterations to make it easier for removing the screen for cleaning. Two smaller units have now been produced which makes it suitable for smaller ponds, or where more than one is used.

NOTE. It is important to note the recommendations for maximum flow rate of each unit when planning the size of the pump and/or the requirements of your filtration system.

The Answer is designed to fit into the settlement chamber of the filter system. With a new system a suitable size vortex chamber can be obtained, or it will fit into a Nexus unit.
It can also be retro-fitted into an existing system in many cases although it can be difficult with some settlement chambers. Evolution Aqua's website does explain the necessary requirements, and it can also be used for pumping direct to the filter although this should be avoided if possible. It may in some cases be necessary to purchase a suitable container such as a vortex chamber to house the Answer before the original settlement chamber.

Maintenance consists of removing and cleaning the screens with a garden hose about every 14 days, and probably more often if there is blanket weed in the pond. Koi-keepers in South Wales often need to clean them every two to three days.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
