The
photo above shows the completed pond with the filters in the
foreground.
The
bottom of each filter has it's own slope to a pipe connected
to a 0.75kw swimming pool pump, and each chamber can be flushed
seperately. The filter is split into two identical systems
parallel to each other. After the settlement chamber the water
goes to four "up and down" filter bays filled with
brushes. The filter bays are seperated by 10mm fibre cement
sheets covered with fibreglass. The last 2 metres of the filter
is only 400mm deep as it has a large tree root beneath it and
the water flows through rows of brushes here.
There are three swimming
pool pumps.
0.25kw - - - 12,000litre
0.6kw - - - - 20,000 litre
0.75kw - - - 25,000 litre
All pumps connected to inlet and outlet
manifolds, and can be operated seperately or all together. Both skimmers have
to be on or the filter runs dry with all pumps running.
2 venturi & 2 surface swimming pool return type 'eyeballs' all with own valves.

This website started with a
booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS
- South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This
is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems
that might occur by following these ideas. It is important
that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules
that may apply.
