Steve's pond

A view of the filter media

The ingredients inside the completed filter with air being pumped into the Kaldnes this is to keep it moving and to feed the bio with fresh air.

The first stage in the filter you can see it is working by the amount of suspended waste it is collecting and allowing to fall to the bottom ready for removal.
The dirt shown on the brushes

After the UV the water passes through the Clover leaf fluid bed then it on its way back to the pond fresh and clean.

The top up connection Cold water collection and fresh water top up is done from here, pop on the hose pipe and the cold water will pass through the heat exchanger and pre heat it if needed so there is no temperature change with in the pond.

The pump in the drains box

Fish waste removal is done with hydraulics-pump out the water in the bin then pull out the 4 inch pipe and hey presto 95% of the fish waist is removed. This is recycled on my lawn and flower beds witch seem to love it to the point my neighbours ask and get some over the fence when I have some to spare.

The spring water container has a small pump on the end and is full of wadding rapped around a 4 inch pipe, a home made water scrubber that is very effective and when the sump is not being used has the 4 inch pipe removed with the pump turned on it will draw water from the base of the pond very gently so not to pull the solids in with it. This has the added bonus effect of keeping the water fresh and moving within the sump.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
