Pond descriptions

Steve's pond

January 2006 a new year and a fresh start and a well earned rest so I started by getting my little ones warmed up so in went the heating for the pond.
This was connected to my workshop central heating system as I did not use the hot water side just the heating of the radiators. A visit to Koi Cymru and a few calculations it turned out my heating system was more than adequate coping with the pond water and my workshop. I got a friend to pop round for a coffee and he wired up the programmer so I could control it all.

The new heat exchanger
The new gas boiler
Over the next few weeks or so I gradually eased the temperature up a degree at a time until it was purring at 22 degrees and looked like a Turkish bath at night when the frost came down. In the mean time the fish loved it and the filters started to work as a bonus the water improved.

A view of the pond & garden Mid January and all the earth left over was back filled in to the flower beds and a good measure of compost laid over the top. I had by now cut and put down all the slabs in and around the pond “no more muddy shoes”

An additional filter has been fitted Retro fitted another filter this helped a bit but still the water was not that good.

The controls which are in the garage

The completed heating controls and RCD trip switch the pond temperature if you notice now at 22 degrees and in January as well.

These are situated in the workshop.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
