When they first moved into their new house in Kent five years ago, Tony and Sharon inherited a small pond that was overgrown and stagnant. They did nothing to it the first year, but decided to clean it up in the second year. In doing so, they noticed that it had a leak! so off they went to their local garden centre and bought new liner, threw it over the old liner and bob’s your uncle their love affair with pond keeping began. They bought a couple of fish from the same garden centre and everything went swimmingly until their neighbour mentioned that they would need a filter…. Well five years and three ponds later, from a 300 gallon pond they now have a 3,000+ gallon pond with a filter system that dwarfs their original Green Genie.
The pond is 12ft long, 9ft wide, and 5ft deep. The pond holds 3,375 gallons, and the vegetable filter and waterfall can be seen on the left.

This website started with a
booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS
- South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This
is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems
that might occur by following these ideas. It is important
that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules
that may apply.
