The filter system is a vortex chamber with static K1, and a square top biological filter with moving bed Kaldnes K1.
The electrical connections can be seen to the right of the filters, and a close-up can be seen in the photo on the right. The Sequence 1000 pump and the 30 watt UV unit can also be seen in this photo.
On the left you can see the vortex-settling chamber, and Andy has now added a homemade container for static KI. Click here for more details of how this was done.
The photo above shows the biological filter with moving Kaldnes K1. This is supplied with air from a Medo air pump supplying 45 litres/min.
These photos show the homemade trickle tower, and it is situated alongside the filter system. The media used in this unit is Flocor.
The photo on the left shows the return from the trickle tower.
The photo above is the air manifold from the Medo air pump.
This website started with a
booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS
- South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This
is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems
that might occur by following these ideas. It is important
that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules
that may apply.
