This pond has been several years in the making as Bob completed his quarantine pond first, but now the final result has been well worth waiting for.
The pond is roughly 15 feet square with large rounded corners and is 7ft 6ins deep.
There are four bottom drains and two of these are fitted with diffusers.
The pond was built using 18 x 9 x 4 inch concrete blocks laid on their side to form a nine inch thick wall. It was then rendered and fibreglassed.
At the back of the photo you can see the large waterfall with many plants around it.
On the left of the above photo you can see a balcony which has been built over the filter housing, and has table and chairs and makes an ideal viewing platform.
This photo shows the floor of the above mentioned bacony, and the access to one set of filters. The other set can be serviced from inside the filter chamber which is accessed from a seperate door built into the side..
There are two filter systems running in parallel, and each one consists of a large vortex chamber and two square vortex filter chambers with Japanese matting.
Each set of filters has its own Yamitt pump and 55 watt UV. They are connected up so that either set can run the pond on it's own.

This website started with a
booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS
- South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This
is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems
that might occur by following these ideas. It is important
that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules
that may apply.
