Pond construction

Ron's pond 16 - The waterfall & pond edging

The liner is laid out under the waterfall The completed waterfall
The waterfall and edging were constructed from Cumbrian slate blocks. A liner was laid underneath the whole area before positioning the heavy blocks. Once I was happy with the position the joints were cemented and, when dry, sealed with clear G4 resin.

The edging was also laid on a bed of mortar with the gap between pond and rock also pointed and sealed with black G4 resin. The underside of the slate rocks were given two coats of G4.

In total 2.5 tons of slate was used for the pond area with another 3 tons of crushed slate being added to the floor around the pond for landscaping.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
