Pond descriptions

Louis & Helen's pond

This photo was taken just after the pond was completed in 1993, and was the original design that Louis had made.

The whole of the garden is surrounded by some very large and old pine trees, and it was found that the pine were a continual problem in the pond. For this reason the wooden pergola shown on the previous page was constructed.

The pergola can be seen in this photo which was taken during the winter of 1995/6.
There are some beautiful views here over the valleys, but it can get very cold at certain times of the year. In this photo you can also see the cover over the pond.
This photo was taken in December 1996, and shows what is being used for the winter of 1996/7.

The pergola wooden structure remains the same, but the netting has been removed from the top, and this has been replaced with clear mini corrugated plastic sheeting which will remain there permanently. The sides are made up of the same material, but are designed to be removed in the summer months. There are removable panels on the side closest to the house.

Louis also added a gas heating system in 1996/7 and this is situated on the other side of the pond from where this photo was taken.
Photos of building the pond have are available. For the full schematic drawing click here
UPDATE 2004. Louis has now moved to France and it is believed this pond no longer exists.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
